Why Rebecca enjoys working at Happy

Rebecca is Happy's newest member of staff, working in our IT skills team as an Account Manager. After working for Happy for less than a year, she was voted in as one of Happy's Mentor and Multipliers, what we call our people managers.

In this video, Rebecca explains what the interview process was like and why she decided to apply for a role with Happy, what her probation period was like, and how her role has developed since joining.

Why Sheena enjoys working at Happy

"I really like that at Happy I can own my role — having the expertise in my work and being trusted to get on with it. for me, that’s the best thing about working for Happy, that trust that I’m doing my work to the best of my ability.

"I also love that I have the opportunity to make a difference — not just for apprentices, but for the team and for the business. I still keep in touch with some of our apprentices, and seeing them go through the programme and on to flourish in their new career is so rewarding. It’s so rewarding and makes all the hard work and the effort worthwhile."

Why Suzi enjoys working at Happy

"I have worked at Happy for 16 years – I started on our reception, welcoming people to our training centre and answering the phones, and in my time here I have worked in many different areas – including customer service, HR and salaries, account management, and writing and submitting bids for tenders.

"At the moment, my core role is as an Account Manager – I work with clients from their initial enquiry to find the right learning solution for their needs, and support them with the logistics of their projects.

"I lead our Sustainability Action Group, which is working on making Happy as environmentally sustainable as possible. I’m also a part of the Psychological Safety Action Group, and am currently working on a project to review and improve our Parental Leave policy, so prospective and existing parents at the company are fully supported.

"I work with a team from across the business to run our annual Open Day, where new and prospective clients are welcomed to Happy for free taster sessions, so they can experience our training for themselves to see how effective and engaging it is.

"I’ve worked part time since having my children, and the flexible working patterns at Happy mean that I was able to choose my working days that fit in with my childcare, and that I can work around the school run.

"I enjoy working for Happy as I like being in charge of my working day – being able to decide for myself what my priorities are and how best to structure my time. I also like the variety of my role, as there’s so many different things I do within my day to day job."

Why Cathy enjoys working at Happy

Cathy Busani has worked at Happy for over 30 years. She originally started as a Trainee IT Trainer, but soon became Managing Director of the company. Here, she describes her career journey and explains why she loves working at Happy.

Why Simone enjoys working at Happy

"I was originally attracted to Happy as it’s a values-led organisation. I loved how important the people are at Happy and how much value is placed on individuals. I’ve been at Happy for nine years, and it’s gone really fast! I expected that I’d be at Happy for 3 years or so and then move on, because that’s normally what you do but Happy is my longest employer, which speaks volumes.

"I love being a people manager. It's where I get to use my strengths Individualisation, Relator, and Learner and I can learn as much from them as them from me. I really value the openness we have at Happy  people are encouraged to bring their whole selves to work, which I feel enables genuine, meaningful conversations and helps us work together better.

"Focusing on strengths is a really big part of Happy’s culture, and has helped me to learn more about myself too. I can be quite self-critical, so a culture that focuses on the things that I do well, rather than what I don’t, really helps shift that mindset. I also love our value of celebrating mistakes, as it encourages me to try more things and not put myself down when I get something wrong. Mistakes are seen as a fantastic learning opportunity here. I love all the different exciting and new ideas that we come up with and try out.

"Another highlight is the variety in my role. I am part of a few different action groups (or projects) outside of my main role, which keeps my job interesting. I get to collaborate with people from different departments, and really enjoy being able to learn from others across the organisation."
