Excel Databases 

This intermediate level Excel course is for learners who use Excel to manage data such as lists of residents, birthday lists and databases. You will learn how to create a Database in Excel, and manage this with Advanced Filter options and create Pivot Tables to see only the most relevant information.

Course Requirements

Learners should be confident to create, save and locate files, enter text and numbers into a spreadsheet and format it. They should also be able to use SUM to add a row or column of figures and understand basic calculations (e.g. =B4*A1).

Session 1

Creating a Database in Excel – What is a database? Setting up a database or list in Excel, Navigating your database, and Data Validation.

Session 2

Sorting and Totalling – Sorting, Multi-level sorting, Auto-Filter, Advanced Filters.

Session 3

Database Functions – Sub-totals, Consolidate, DSum, D Average.

Session 4

Using Data Analysis – Pivot Tables, Pivot Charts


The course will run from 10am to 4:45pm (light cold buffet 1pm to 1:45pm). Please be careful to arrive by 9.45am for registration and refreshments. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals. If you arrive over 30 minutes late you may be asked to leave and attend another day.
