Each Excel session is 90 minutes long and covers an essential skill that will improve your productivity. You can pick and choose which sessions you'd like to take, so the training is relevant to you.

Live Online Learning is an interactive webinar, delivered using GoTo. Learners log into the software on their own machine and can be anywhere — at their desk or at home. The trainer then guides the learners through the material, encouraging participation and interaction.

    You will need to be confident setting up data in a spreadsheet, saving and locating the file, and using formulas. For the More Formulas session you will also need to be confident with Absolute Cell References (using dollar signs in a formula).

Overview of the Sessions

More Formulas

If you’re already familiar with SUM, basic calculations and absolute cell references, then this session will take you onto the next steps with calculations including statistical and analysis functions.

Requirements: You will need to be confident setting up a spreadsheet and performing calculations, including using Absolute Cell References.

What you will learn:

  • Using the Paste Function
  • Common Functions: Average, Min and Max
  • Conditional Formatting
  • Using Basic If Function
  • Using CountIf.

Using Multiple Worksheets

This session looks at working on workbooks with more than one sheet.  You’ll lean how to use grouping to work more efficiently, how to calculate using cells from different sheets and you’ll learn how to create a summary multiple data sheets.

Requirements: You will need to be confident setting up a spreadsheet and performing basic calculations. If you are not confident with this please see our session on basic formulas.

What you will learn:

  • Grouping across Sheets
  • Linking Formulae across Sheets
  • Consolidation

Working With Spreadsheets That Other People Have Created

This session covers the key tasks you should complete when you inherit someone else's spreadsheet to ensure that it is running well and to make sense of any complex formulas.

Requirements: You will need to be familiar and confident with creating formulas before attending this course. If you aren't, have a look at our Level 1 Creating Formulas and More Formulas sessions.

What you will learn:

  • Formula Auditing tools (trace precedents, evaluate formula)
  • Using Find to identify data validation and conditional formatting
  • Examining where named ranges are
  • Using the formula bar to unravel nested functions.

The Small Print

The course will run remotely for 90 minutes. 

All learners will need to either install GoToTraining on their machines or use the Web App in a browser (either Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge are supported). Full technical requirements are on the GoTo websiteYour link will be included in your joining instructions once you have booked your place — if you haven't received this email then please contact our team.

Learners should log into the training session 10 minutes before the start time to ensure that they have downloaded and set up GoTo correctly. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals.

Your active participation is expected: everyone will be heard and seen throughout, just as they would be if we were in a room together. To be heard, hear and seen you will need a microphone, speakers and camera – if you have a modern laptop that’s all you will need. Remember, you’ll need a quiet place to call from and a decent internet connection is a must.
