What You Will Learn
What are Liberating Structures?
Liberating Structures (LS) are simple social technologies and tiny methods that disrupt conventional patterns in how we work together. Taken individually, each of the 33+ methods changes the way results are generated by a group. As a repertoire of complementary methods, they address many chronic challenges faced by groups.
When LS are introduced, many familiar approaches that people use all the time — presentations, open discussions, managed discussions, status reports, and brainstorms — become less attractive or fade away. LS make it possible to immediately and productively tap a group’s creative intelligence and generative potential. The precise and minimum way each LS is specified makes it possible for anyone to quickly start using them. LS remove the mystery behind effective participatory leadership, group facilitation, and hosting dynamic processes. Prepare to be surprised!
During the first hour of the immersion learning experience, we’ll focus on developing a working knowledge of individual LS while also getting comfortable with the underlying organising logic that all of the methods share in common. From there, we’ll rapidly scale up your familiarity with the repertoire by experiencing multiple methods in a row. The workshop will conclude with you preparing and designing a string of LS to use in an upcoming meeting, work session, workshop, or other interaction.
Throughout the workshop you’ll learn about the underlying principles of Liberating Structures, how to introduce them in your own work, and hear stories about inventive ways people are applying them in diverse settings around the world.

What people are saying about Liberating Structures
“Since the workshop, I have been able to use Liberating Structures to break the deadlock in meetings, prioritise work and increase morale. Much of my work in leading change and improvement is about having the best possible data and generating the best possible options; Liberating Structures is a great tool for both, with the bonus that the process naturally brings the people involved together on the journey.”Mike Robinson, Business Agility Consultant
“I came to the workshop looking for ideas of ways to refresh my approach to leading groups and facilitating meetings. What I came away with was much, much deeper. For example, a realisation of the extent to which the structure of a gathering can positively affect outcomes, and a desire to actively improve inclusivity. I saw how LS could help bring introverted folk into group work and also play well with technical communities where some structure is often needed to release innovation. The event was almost entirely ‘learning by doing’, brilliantly run and provided insights from a diverse group of organisations. I have used LS a few times and have been thrilled to see the enjoyment and great outcomes they can bring to collaborative work.”Phil Davis, Director of Technical Learning & Development, Atkins.
Holy smoke. This might be one of the most useful websites I've been introduced to since Google. The only words that come to mind are swear words, and I'm on county email.Ryan Murrey, Acting Executive, Washington State CASA
