Requirements
Delegates do not need any prior knowledge, although advanced Excel users (equivalent of our Level 3) are the typical audience for Power BI users. We recommend you have installed the Power BI Desktop application and have a second monitor, to get the most from the course.
What you will learn
By the end of the is workshop you will:
- Have an understanding of the difference between the Power BI cloud service and Power BI Desktop app
- Know how to access and explore existing Power BI reports that have been shared with you
- Know how to create/edit reports in the cloud service from published data sets you have access to
- Have created your own interactive report from scratch by importing sample Excel data and visualising with charts and slicers
A separate 2 day fundamentals workshop is available for data analysts who need a deeper understanding of Power Query and DAX.

- Overview of the Power BI suite of tools
- Power BI Service, Power BI Desktop & Power BI Mobile
- Comparison with Excel Power Query and Power Pivot tools

- Overview of the various sources of data that can be included in Power BI reports and the built in connectors provided
Session 2
- Exploring the Power BI service
- Accessing the service
- Understand the difference between Reports, Semantic Models, Workspaces, Apps and Dashboards
- Creating your own report from a published data set you have access to
- Getting quick insights
Session 3
- Introduction to the Desktop App
- Accessing and using Power Query
- Creating simple interactive report with charts, tables and slicers
- Publishing and sharing the report
This course is only available for private bookings, either for groups or as a one-to-one, held online via Zoom or in the classroom. Please get in touch for availability.

The course will run remotely for a full day consisting of three 90-minute live online sessions with independent work in between.
All learners will need to install Zoom on their machines. Full technical requirements are on the Zoom website. Your link will be included in your joining instructions once you have booked your place — if you haven't received this email then please contact our team.
Learners should log into the training session 10 minutes before the start time to ensure that they have downloaded and set up Zoom correctly. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals.

For classroom sessions
All public classroom sessions take place at Happy's HQ in London at Robert Dolan House, 9 Alie Street, London E1 8DE. Please see our Contact Us page for full directions and a PDF map.
The course will run from 10am to 4:45pm (lunch is served 1pm to 1:45pm — we offer a choice of 3 cold bowl dishes). Please be careful to arrive by 9:45am for registration and refreshments. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals. If you arrive over 30 minutes late you may be asked to leave and attend another day.

Mac Users
If you are a Mac user, please let us know when booking. If the course is held in the classroom at Happy, the training is held on PCs so we recommend that you bring your Macbook with you (we are not able to provide an additional monitor). For online training, please let us know when booking and you can use your Mac as normal. We provide a PDF with shortcuts for Mac users and your trainer will refer to this throughout the training.
