Google Sheets for Advanced Users
This one-day course has been designed for anyone who is currently using spreadsheets for budgets or other data that needs calculations. You will learn advanced Google Sheets features to improve your ability to organise, analyse and present your data. You will be able to take your functions further and make them more powerful by nesting them.
By the end of the course, you will have the skills and knowledge to create advanced functions and will be able to combine them to get the results you need. These include Logical functions, Lookups and Errors.

Course Overview
Course requirements
This advanced course is for anyone who has used Sheets before and is confident with creating formulas that used Absolute Cell Refences and functions such as IF, COUNTIF, SUMIF, etc.
Learners will be required to sign in to their Google account and will therefore need to bring details of their email address, password and a means by which they can receive their 2-Step Verification Code (e.g. mobile phone).
What you will learn
By the end of this advanced one-day Sheets course, you will be able to:
- Create Partial Absolute Cell References to lock just the column or just the row reference in a formula.
- Move around a spreadsheet speedily using names and use them in formulas to improve accuracy and readability.
- Input accurate data entry using data validation. e.g., enter a number within a certain range, enter a date within a certain period, choose from a given list to avoid errors.
- Use IF and Nested IF statements to check whether one or more conditions are met.
- Use the OR function to check whether any of the specified conditions are met and if so, return a value of TRUE.
- Use the AND function to check whether ALL of the specified conditions are met and if so, return a value of TRUE.
- Create calculations based on single or multiple conditions. For example, calculate a discount for those over a specific age or ordering a high volume (IF with AND and OR).
- Use the MINIFS function to return the lowest value amongst multiple criteria.
- Use the MAXIFS function to return the highest value amongst multiple criteria.
- Use some functions to clean up your data so it can be analysed accurately.
- Cross reference data using a Lookup function. For example, look up an age and place it in a category e.g., 16 to 25.
- Use IFERROR to tidy up your results.

What's it like to learn online with Happy?
In this short video, Rachael explains how Happy makes our Live Online Learning IT programmes just as interactive and engaging as our classroom sessions.
The Small Print
For Live Online Interactive Learning sessions (webinars)
The course will run remotely for a full day consisting of three 90-minute live online sessions with independent work in between.
All learners will need to install Zoom on their machines. Full technical requirements are on the Zoom website. Your link will be included in your joining instructions once you have booked your place — if you haven't received this email then please contact our team.
Learners should log into the session 10 minutes before the start time to ensure that they have downloaded and set up Zoom correctly. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals. Unfortunately you will be asked to leave and attend a different day if you arrive more than 15 minutes late for online sessions, and more than 30 minutes late for classroom sessions.
