By the end of the course you will be confident in using Styles to automatically format parts of your document.  You will use Styles to navigate around a document.  You will create sophisticated graphics.  You will create templates and Building Blocks (Autotext) to save time. You will be able to Mail Merge within Word and to Outlook email. This course is suitable for users of both Word 2013 and Word 2016.

Course Requirements

Delegates should be confident in creating, saving and finding Word documents as well as entering, formatting and editing text.

This course is designed for PC users of Word 2013 and 2016. It is also available for users of Word 2007/2010 – please ensure you attend the course that is appropriate for your version of Word.

What You Will Learn

  • Use both Paragraph and Text pre-set Styles
  • Understand what can be done with Styles beyond just formatting
  • Add Headers and Footers
  • Insert Pictures, and Diagrams
  • Create Templates and use Building Blocks to save time on standard documents

Session 1

Understand Text and Paragraph formatting; Create Bulleted and Numbered Lists; Use  pre-set Styles; Create your own Styles; Understand what else Styles can be used for.

Session 2

Change page layout; Add Headers and Footers; Add and edit Clip Art; Create Diagrams with Smart Art; Add Tables to your document.

Session 3

Create Templates for documents you use often;  Ensure styles work with your templates; Add Form Fields to a template to make entering information easier; Create Building Blocks to add standard text into a document.

Session 4

Create a Mail Merge using an Excel list; Merge to create a letter in Word or an email in Outlook.


Please note that while this course covers Word 2016, it is not an Office 365 and working in the Cloud course (although it does mention working in the Cloud). The course will run from 10am to 4:45pm (light cold buffet 1pm to 1:45pm). Please be careful to arrive by 9.45am for registration and refreshments. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals. If you arrive over 30 minutes late you may be asked to leave and attend another day.
