By the end of the course, you will be confident in using the essential features of Word to create and alter simple documents.  For example, letters, memos and reports. Delegates must be confident in using a keyboard, Windows and a mouse . This course is for anyone who has never used Word before (or any other word processing package). It is suitable for users of both Word 2007 and Word 2010.

Course Requirements

Delegates must be confident in using a keyboard, Windows and a mouse. No prior experience of Word or other word processing software is required.

If you are not confident using a PC and mouse, then please take a look at our Windows 7 Essentials and Windows 10 Essentials courses first (currently only available as a group or one-to-one course).

This course is designed for PC users of Word 2007 and 2010. It is also available for users of Word 2013/2016 – please ensure you attend the course that is appropriate for your version of Word.

What You Will Learn

In particular you will be able to:

  • Create, save and find documents using Word
  • Add text, format it and check it for mistakes
  • Move around easily in a Word document
  • Move text around
  • Format text – including the use of styles
  • Insert and edit pictures
  • Change the page layout – including margins, headers and footers and page breaks
  • Print your document

Timetable

Session 1

Open, save, close and find your document; Create documents;  Add text; Use Undo and Redo; Move around inside a Word document.

Session 2

Spellcheck; Select text within the document; Cut, Copy and Paste; Change Text and Paragraph Formatting.

Session 3

Copy formatting changes with Format Painter; Use pre-set Styles to format text and paragraphs; Create Bullet Points or a Numbered List; Add a Watermark to your document.

Session 4

Insert a Picture from your files or from the internet; Add a frame to the picture; Change the way text flows around the picture.

Session 5

Change page Margins and Orientation; Add a Header or Footer; Add Page Numbers; Use Page Breaks; Preview and Print your document.


SMALL PRINT

The course will run from 10am to 4:45pm (light cold buffet 1pm to 1:45pm). Please be careful to arrive by 9.45am for registration and refreshments. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals. If you arrive over 30 minutes late you may be asked to leave and attend another day.

Although he trains the full suite of MS Office and non-Office packages at all levels, his favourite package is Excel. A previous winner of the prestigious Learning and Performance Institute's 'Learning Professional of the Year' award, as well as other training accolades, he is also the IT Helpline Manager.

Sal trains most MS Office packages. Her real love is in transferring knowledge by making her training sessions fun and more impactful. She is Happy’s Outlook Champion and ensures Outlook courses and training material are updated regularly with new features. Sal has been at happy for almost 2 years.

Paul trains on Microsoft products both on the Mac and PC platforms including VBA. Paul has trained with Happy since "the dawn of MS-DOS when formulas ruled the earth."

Rachael is the Happy Computers Product Development Manager, as well as being our lead IT trainer. She is responsible for making sure all our courses are of the highest quality.

Kristina is an associate IT Trainer, she’s been training for 8 years and working for Happy since 2015. She provides training mainly on Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. Her favourite package is Excel; she loves to show people shortcuts and quicker ways of working.
