Windows 7 Essentials

We have designed this one-day Windows 7 Essentials course for users who need to develop their basic computer skills or gain confidence when using computers. By the end of the course, you’ll be confident in using the essential features of Windows and a mouse, as well as opening and closing programs, basic word processing, and managing your documents.

Course Requirements

You do not need to have any previous experience of using Windows or computers.

This course is designed for users of Windows 7. We also offer this as a private group or one-to-one course for Windows 10. Please speak to your IT team if you are unsure which version of Windows you are currently using.

What You Will Learn

By the end of the one-day Windows 7 course, you will be confident in using the essential features of Windows and a mouse to move around the Windows environment and manage your files.

In particular, you will be able to:

  • Switch between two or more programs
  • Create a simple Word document
  • Create folders and subfolders to store your work
  • Organise your files, and move and rename them
  • Copy files to different locations

Session One: Getting started in Windows

Jargon busting; Starting and shutting down Windows safely; Using the mouse; Opening and closing programs; Minimise, maximise and restore programs; Resizing Windows and moving them around; The Taskbar (switching between programs)

Session Two: Using Microsoft Word

Starting Microsoft Word; The Word screen; Creating, saving, closing, opening and printing files; Closing Word

Session Three: File Management

Opening and viewing files on your computer; Creating folders; Organising your files by moving and renaming them; Copying files; Deleting files


The course will run from 10am to 4:45pm (hot buffet 1pm to 1:45pm). Please be careful to arrive by 9.45am for registration and refreshments. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals. If you arrive over 30 minutes late you may be asked to leave and attend another day.

Ed Lepre

Ed is a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) and has worked at Happy for over 12 years. Although he trains the full suite of MS Office and non-Office packages at all levels, his favourite package is Excel. A previous winner of the prestigious Learning and Performance Institute's 'Learning Professional of the Year' award, as well as other training accolades, he is also the IT Helpline Manager.

Maureen Egbe

Maureen joined Happy as an Associate trainee trainer in November 2012 and within two years became a Senior Trainer. As well as being a trainer, she is also an ex-athlete and athletics coach - an interest that compliments her training skills, using activities to engage delegates keeping training interesting and fun. Maureen is also an NLP Certified coach.
