Beginner Word 2013/2016 Core Level 1: Taught in British Sign Language

This one-day beginner level course is designed for anyone who has never used Word (or any other word processing package) before. It is suitable for PC users of both Word 2013 and Word 2016.

Please note: this course is aimed at delegates who use BSL (British Sign Language) or SSE (Sign Supported English) as their language and is taught by our Deaf trainer in BSL.

Course Requirements

Delegates must be confident in using a keyboard and a mouse, and must be fluent in BSL. It is suitable for PC users of both Word 2013 and Word 2016.

What You Will Learn

By the end of this one-day Word course, you will be able to:

  • Create, save and find documents using Word
  • Add text, format it and check it for mistakes
  • Move around easily in a Word document
  • Move text around
  • Format text – including the use of styles
  • Insert and edit pictures
  • Change the page layout – including margins, headers and footers and page breaks
  • Print your document

Session 1

Open, save, close and find your document; Create documents;  Add text; Use Undo and Redo; Move around inside a Word document.

Session 2

Spellcheck; Select text within the document; Cut, Copy and Paste; Change Text and Paragraph Formatting.

Session 3

Copy formatting changes with Format Painter; Use pre-set Styles to format text and paragraphs; Create Bullet Points or a Numbered List; Add a Watermark to your document.

Session 4

Insert a Picture from your files or from the internet; Add a frame to the picture; Change the way text flows around the picture.

Session 5

Change page Margins and Orientation; Add a Header or Footer; Add Page Numbers; Use Page Breaks; Preview and Print your document.

Please note that while this course covers Word 2016, it is not an Office 365 and working in the Cloud course (although it does mention working in the Cloud). The course will run from 10am to 4:45pm (light cold buffet 1pm to 1:45pm). Please be careful to arrive by 9.45am for registration and refreshments. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals. If you arrive over 30 minutes late you may be asked to leave and attend another day.
