What is ECDL?

The European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) or International Computer Driving License (ICDL) is an internationally recognised computer skills certification programme, spanning some sixty countries. It’s become an industry standard that every office worker can achieve and benefit from.

Basic ECDL has seven Modules:

  • IT Security Level 1 (ECDL) or Concepts of Information and Communication Technology (ICDL)
  • IT User Fundamentals (ECDL) or Using the Computer and Managing Files (ICDL)
  • Word Processing
  • Spreadsheets
  • Using Databases
  • Presentations
  • Web Browsing and Communication

Examinations

When a candidate registers to start ECDL they receive a ‘passport’ on which the progress through the seven tests is recorded. When all seven modules are completed, they’ve passed!

If you want to move onto the next stage after passing your basic ECDL, you can try ECDL Advanced and become an expert user.
