Aims
By the end of the course you will be able to create a template to automate your work. The template will include styles, table of contents, an index, and word fields. You will also be able to create bookmarks and hyperlinks to other documents.
What you will learn
In particular you will be able to:
- Improve the layout of your text and page.
- Use, create & amend standard automated documents, for example memos, faxes, forms etc.
- Use & create consistent headings throughout long documents.
- Create a list of the contents of the document with page numbers.
- Move very quickly around long documents.
- Use a particular view of your document that lets you choose to work with parts of the document (for example, see the headings only).
- Track any amendments that happen in a document.
Requirements
Delegates must be confident in using a keyboard, Windows and a mouse. Additionally you must have used Word before and be familiar with basic text formatting, cut/copy and paste, simple page layout, simple headers and footers and creating and altering tables (see our Word Intermediate outline).

Speeding up your work: Keyboard shortcuts, Styles.
Tables of Contents & Outline View: Create a table of contents from styles.
Session 2
Use the document map to navigate, Edit a document using outline view
Session 3
References: Headers & Footers using StyleRef, Cross Referencing using styles, Hyperlinks, Bookmarks, Footnotes & Endnotes, Page Numbering.
Session 4
Templates, Fields & Track Changes : Create templates in Word.
Add the Create Date field to a template, Add fill-in fields to a template, Track Changes.
The ‘Small Print’
The course will run from 10am to 4:45pm (light cold buffet 1pm to 1:45pm). Please be careful to arrive by 9.45am for registration and refreshments. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals. If you arrive over 30 minutes late you may be asked to leave and attend another day.
