MS Expression Web Essentials

This course is for anyone who has never used Expression Web before (or any other web-editing package).

By the end of the course, you will be confident in using the essential features of Expression Web to create a simple website.

What you will learn

In particular you will be able to:

  • Create web pages and internal and external links within a website.
  • Import text from Word into your website.
  • Add and use images as hyperlinks and create image maps.

  • Create online forms and analyse the information.
  • Publish your website so you can view it on the World Wide Web.


Requirements

Delegates must be confident in using Windows and a mouse and be an advanced Word Processor user. You also need to be experienced in accessing web pages on the World Wide Web. It is preferable that you come to the course with an idea of how you would like your website to look.


Timetable

Session 1

Getting started with Expression Web: Creating a new web site, Saving and naming pages, Viewing pages in the browser.

Session 2

Hyperlinks: Internal hyperlinks, External hyperlinks, Email links, Links to a bookmark (anchor).

Session 3

Creating Links, Bookmarks, Linking to External Sites, Email Links, Setting Link Colours, Verifying Hyperlinks.

Session 4

Images: Inserting Images, Using Alt text for Images, Aligning Images, Creating Image Maps.

Session 5

Layout tables: Drawing layout tables, Drawing Layout cells.

Session 6

Forms: Form fields, Text areas, Group boxes, Check boxes, Radio buttons, Submit and reset buttons, Saving Form results.

Session 7

Interactive Behaviours: Creating interactive buttons, using Jump menus.

Session 8

Checking your site, Publishing to the Web.

The ‘Small Print’

The course will run from 10am to 4:45pm (light cold buffet 1pm to 1:45pm). Please be careful to arrive by 9.45am for registration and refreshments. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals. If you arrive over 30 minutes late you may be asked to leave and attend another day.
