This course is for anyone looking to learn how to create effective and engaging charts within Excel, and present their data in a simple and easily digestible way.

What you will learn

In particular you will be able to:

  • Change chart types & add new data series.
  • Add Chart titles, gridlines and data labels to make charts clearer.
  • Use the full variety of charts: Pie charts, Scatter diagrams; Bubble, Line & Area Charts, Stacked charts.

  • Understand which charts to use with which data, for maximum effect.
  • Add graphics to your chart to better illustrate the data.
  • Use PivotTables and create inter-active PivotCharts, enabling users to select options and see different charting results.

Session 1

Charts: Why use charts; What makes a good chart; Which chart to use when;
Creating a basic chart.

Session 2

Format a Chart; Changing colours; Editing Text in a Chart; Add a data table; Changing the scale; Gridlines; Spacing in a column chart; Adding data labels; Creating your own user defined chart types.

Session 3

100% charts; Pie & Doughnut charts; Line & Area Charts; Bubble charts; Combination charts; Adding a Trendline to a chart; Pictogram.

Session 4

Creating Pivot Charts; Filtering a Pivot Chart; Rearranging the layout.


Requirements

Delegates must be confident in using Windows and a mouse and at least one other Windows package (for example Word or Excel).

The ‘Small Print’

The course will run from 10am to 4:45pm (light cold buffet 1pm to 1:45pm). Please be careful to arrive by 9.45am for registration and refreshments. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals. If you arrive over 30 minutes late you may be asked to leave and attend another day.
