Excel 2003 Databases

This course is for anyone who has an intermediate knowledge of Excel and wishes to use it to manage data such as lists of residents, birthday lists and databases.

Aims

By the end of the course you will be confident in using the features for working with excel as a database. You will be able to quickly sort, filter and summarise your data.

What you will learn

In particular you will be able to:

  • Create a List in Excel.
  • Create a Database in Excel.
  • Consolidate information from more than one list.
  • Analyse the information using Excel’s Data menu.
  • Sort and Filter including the use of Advanced Filters
  • Use the Subtotals Command.
  • Use Pivot Tables to analyse your data.

Requirements

Delegates must be confident in using Windows and a mouse. Additionally you must have used Excel before and be familiar with entering formula.


Timetable

Session 1

Creating a Database in Excel: What is a database?; Setting up a database or list in Excel; Navigating through the database; Data Validation.

Session 2

Sorting and Totalling: Extracting Data; Filters and AutoFilters; Multi-Level Sorts; Advanced Filters.

Session 3

Database Functions: Group and Outline Data; Subtotals; Consolidate Command; DSum; DAverage.

Session 4

Using Data Analysis: Pivot Tables; Data Map.

The ‘Small Print’

The course will run from 10am to 4:45pm (light cold buffet 1pm to 1:45pm). Please be careful to arrive by 9.45am for registration and refreshments. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals. If you arrive over 30 minutes late you may be asked to leave and attend another day.
