This course is for anyone who has never used Windows or a mouse before.
Aims
By the end of the course, you will be confident in using the essential features of Windows Vista and a mouse to be able to move around the Windows environment and manage your files.
What you will learn
In particular you will be able to:
- Switch between two or more programs.
- Create a simple Word document.
- Create folders and subfolders to store your work.
- Organise your files, for example move and rename them.
- Copy files to different locations.
Requirements
You need no experience of any version of Windows or even of using a mouse (though any practice you can get with using a mouse would be an advantage).
Timetable
Session 1
Getting Started in Windows: Jargon Busting, Starting and Shutting down Windows safely, Using the Mouse, Opening and Closing Programs, Jargon Busting, Minimise, Maximise and Restore, Resizing Windows and Moving them around, The Taskbar (switching between programs), The Sidebar.
Session 2
Using Microsoft Word: Starting Word, The Word Screen, Jargon Busting, Creating, Saving, Closing, Opening and Printing Files, Exiting Word.
Session 3
File Management: Opening and Viewing files on your computer, Creating Folders, Organising your Files by Moving and Renaming, Copying Files, Deleting Files.
The ‘Small Print’
The course will run from 10am to 4:45pm (light cold buffet 1pm to 1:45pm). Please be careful to arrive by 9.45am for registration and refreshments. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals. If you arrive over 30 minutes late you may be asked to leave and attend another day.
