Exploring the Internet

This course is for anyone who has never used Internet Explorer before (or any other Browser package).

Aims

By the end of the course, you will be confident in using the essential features of Internet Explorer to search and find web pages on the internet and the essentials of sending email.

What you will learn

In particular you will be able to:

  • Understand essential web Jargon.
  • Navigate around a website and note the elements common to websites.
  • Visit currently popular sites.
  • Use Google to find information by specific keywords.
  • Create favourites to easily access previously accessed sites.
  • Access previously visited web-pages by date and by site.
  • Create and use an On-line email account.
  • Download PDF’s and zipped files.

Requirements

Delegates must be confident in using Windows and a mouse. Be sure to tell us which version of browser you use.


Timetable

Session 1

Web Jargon, understanding web addresses, visiting a website using the web address, navigating around a web site, what’s common to websites, searching a website, visiting currently popular sites.

Session 2

Creating and using an on line e-mail account to send and receive e-mail, downloading PDF and zipped files.

Session 3

Searching the Internet using the Google search engine, using Google tools, making Google the Explorer Home page.

Session 4

Customising your Browser- increasing text size, creating favourites, accessing and using the history, Internet Explorer Options.


The ‘Small Print’

The course will run from 10am to 4:45pm (light cold buffet 1pm to 1:45pm). Please be careful to arrive by 9.45am for registration and refreshments. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals. If you arrive over 30 minutes late you may be asked to leave and attend another day.
