HTML Essentials

By the end of the course you will be able to create a website using HTML that contains pages with text, a number of images, internal and external links, cascading style sheets and tables. Delegates must be confident in using Windows and a mouse. This course is for anyone who is interested in learning HTML (the language of the web) to create a web site and those who want to understand the underlying structure of sites created with WYSWYG packages.

Timetable

Day 1

Session 1

Web Geography – Web terminology, visualising the web.

Session 2

Getting started – Creating pages, inserting text, Previewing pages in the browser, Headings, Paragraph and line breaks.

Session 3

Formatting and aligning – Setting attributes, background and text colour.

Session 4

Links – Creating links to pages, external sites, linking to anchors.

Day 2

Session 1

CSS Formatting – Create an external style sheet, redefining HTML styles, linking a CSS sheet, updating styles.

Session 2

Tables – Creating, Aligning text in cells, merging cells.

Session 3

Images – File formats, images as links, alternate text labels.

Session 4

Testing and maintenance – Final considerations, uploading demonstration.


SMALL PRINT

The course will run from 10am to 4:45pm (light cold buffet 1pm to 1:45pm). Please be careful to arrive by 9.45am for registration and refreshments. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals. If you arrive over 30 minutes late you may be asked to leave and attend another day.
