Microsoft Office 2016 Conversion 

Aimed at learners who are already familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, this course will help you find your way around all the new features available in the new 2016 versions. The first goal: to make sure you can find everything you’ve already been using. The second: to help you discover the new features that will get you excited by your upgrade.

Course Requirements

Delegates must be confident in using a keyboard, Windows and a mouse. Delegates must have previous experience of using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook in particular creating a Word document with formatting, creating an Excel spreadsheet with formulae and sending and receiving emails. This course is for users of earlier version of MS Office (such as 2003 or 2007) who are upgrading to MS Office 2016.

What You Will Learn

In particular you will be able to :

  • Work with the new Office 2016 User Interface, such as customising Backstage View and the new Ribbons.
  • Use the new features in Word, such as opening PDFs and the Design tab.
  • Use the new features in Excel, such as Flash Fill and Quick Analysis.

Please note, this course is designed to show you how to use features you are already familiar with from previous versions. Also, this is not an Office 365 and working in the Cloud course (although it does mention working in the Cloud). What’s new in Office 2016: Understanding OneDrive; Backstage view; Recent Files – Pinboard, Word: Word Ribbon, Formatting Pane, Design tab, Opening and editing PDFs, Zoom in

Session 2 

Word: Pick up where you left off, Building blocks, Quick Styles, Navigation Pane, Collapse & Expand, Inserting objects, auto alignment, insert online video

Session 3 

Excel: Excel Ribbon, Flash Fill, Quick analysis tools, Recommended Charts, new chart tools, recommended Pivot tables, Switching between Views

Session 4 

Outlook: Using the Ribbon. Threads/Conversations, Quick Steps; Reading pane tools, Peek views, search bar PowerPoint: Changing the widescreen default format, Auto alignment, Merge shapes, Presenter View


The course will run from 10am to 4:45pm (light cold buffet 1pm to 1:45pm). Please be careful to arrive by 9.45am for registration and refreshments. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals. If you arrive over 30 minutes late you may be asked to leave and attend another day.
