Excel Databases 

This course is for people who have an intermediate knowledge of Excel and wish to use it to manage data such as lists of residents, birthday lists and databases. Participants should be familiar with Windows and happy with using the mouse, menus and scroll bars.

In particular you will be able to:

  • Create a List in Excel
  • Create a Database in Excel
  • Consolidate information from more than one list
  • Analyse the information using Excel’s Data menu
  • Sort and Filter including the use of Advanced Filters
  • Use the Subtotals Command
  • Use Pivot Tables to analyse your data

Session 1

Creating a Database in Excel – What is a database? Setting up a database or list in Excel, Navigating your database, and Data Validation.

Session 2

Sorting and Totalling – Sorting, Multi-level sorting, Auto-Filter, Advanced Filters.

Session 3

Database Functions – Sub-totals, Consolidate, DSum, D Average.

Session 4

Using Data Analysis – Pivot Tables, Pivot Charts


The course will run from 10am to 4:45pm (light cold buffet 1pm to 1:45pm). Please be careful to arrive by 9.45am for registration and refreshments. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals. If you arrive over 30 minutes late you may be asked to leave and attend another day.
