Hi Henry,

I'm reading your Manifesto at the moment and loving it. SHARE's come a long way since we worked together and we're a pretty happy organisation - I think we do a lot of the things you talk about - but there's still a lot to do, and in particular to make sure that we're not only happy, but also high performing. Recently got IiP bronze, and we've refocussed our recruitment so that there's a bias towards attitude. Transparency and ensuring that everyone has a voice means that we're weathering the funding squeeze much better than a lot of organisations, because everyone's part of the solution.

Hope all's well with you, and thank you for your inspirational writing.
Annie x

ps you might enjoy my novel, "Charity Begins with Murder" - see Amazon Kindle store or Lulu.com for the paperback.

Great post, and I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately its counter cultural in alot of organisations. Trust plays a big part and it goes both ways. Some managers remind me of Kathy Bates in the film Misery. He's trying to escape to freedom and she gets a big sledgehammer and cobbles his feet...ouch:)

I once promoted a particularly nasty piece of work to manager, gave him a team to look after and significant pay rises, as a method of changing his poor attitude to work just to have him walk off the job after several incidents all self generated and take me and the company to tribunal with a pack of 'racist' based lies.

People dont change regardless of what you do for them, they either have it in them to be good honest reliable employees or they don't.

a site search (thanks for having one) doesn't show up any references here to Jeffrey Pfeffer. Worth finding his stuff. He has specialised in evidence based management.

In this context only, I vote blue!

I'm not sure about removing the cloud - there's something appropriate about the fact that the sun is emerging from behind it. You know, a fresh approach to business to brighten things up after decades of dull and cloudy management weather. But it would be really good to see a version without the cloud and compare the two.
